Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time, returning after years away, or finally done with lessons that never seemed to fit — this is where you start. I teach guitar and piano to students of all ages and levels across Fish Hoek and the Southern Peninsula, and online to students in South Africa, the UK, and the Netherlands.

I teach at home locations across Fish Hoek and the Southern Peninsula, including:

Online Lessons — Anywhere in the World

Online lessons work. After years of teaching students in South Africa, the UK, and the Netherlands via video, I can tell you the learning curve for online study is minimal and the benefits are real: no travel time, consistent scheduling, and access to a teacher who fits your needs rather than one who happens to live nearby.

Online lessons run on Zoom or similar and are suitable for all levels and ages, including children (with parental involvement for the first few sessions).

What Your First Lesson Looks Like

​The first lesson is never a test. It's a conversation with instruments involved.

We'll talk about where you've come from — whether that's never having played a note or twenty years of practice you've let lapse — and where you want to go. Then we'll play. I'll get a sense of your hands, your ear, your instincts. You'll get a sense of how I teach. By the end of the hour, you'll have played something, and I'll have a clear picture of how to structure your lessons from there.

If you're a parent booking for your child, the first lesson follows the same principle: low pressure, led by curiosity, aimed at finding out what makes your child light up rather than what the syllabus says they should be doing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need my own instrument before starting? For a trial lesson, I would suggest having an instrument but we can also discuss instrument options in your first session and I can point you toward what suits your goals and budget. For ongoing lessons, you'll need access to an instrument at home to practise — I can advise on what to buy.

What if I've never read music? Many students never learn to read music and still play at a high level. I'll introduce notation if it serves your goals, but it's not a requirement. We start where you are.

​

Do you prepare students for exams? Yes — I work with RSL (Rockschool) and other syllabi. I can also help students preparing for school music exams. That said, I teach a lot of students who have no interest in formal grading, and that's equally valid.

How long until I can play a song? At your first lesson. We'll find something that fits where you are and you'll leave having played it, however simply. Progress from there depends on practice time and goals — I'll be honest with you about realistic timelines.

​

Do you teach online lessons to children? Yes, with a parent or caregiver present for the first few sessions to help with technical setup and keep the child on track. After that most students manage independently.

​
